Frequently Asked Questions

What is a body count calculator?

A body count calculator tells you what percentile your number of lifetime sexual partners puts you in, compared to real survey data from people your age and gender. You enter your age range, gender, and number of partners, and the calculator shows where you rank on the distribution — higher percentile means more partners than average, lower means fewer.

What is the average body count by age?

According to CDC National Survey of Family Growth data, the median lifetime partner count in the US is roughly 3–4 for women and 4–6 for men in their 20s, rising to 5–7 for women and 8–10 for men by their 40s. Body counts accumulate over time, so older age groups naturally show higher numbers. This calculator adjusts for your specific age band so the comparison is fair.

What is a normal body count?

There is no single "normal" body count — the distribution is wide. The middle 50% of people in most age groups fall roughly between 2 and 12 partners depending on age and gender. What matters far more than a number is that your experiences were consensual, safe, and healthy. This tool is for curiosity and comparison — not judgment.

Is a high body count bad?

From a statistical standpoint, a high body count simply means you rank higher in the distribution — it carries no moral or health judgment in this calculator. From a health perspective, more partners can mean greater STI exposure risk, which makes regular testing more important. From a relationship perspective, views vary widely by person and culture. This tool only measures where you fall statistically.

Where does the body count data come from?

This calculator uses percentile distributions derived from the CDC's National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) 2015–2019 data on lifetime opposite-sex partners. Distributions are approximated from published percentile breakpoints and interpolated across the narrower age bands shown here. The "Other" gender option uses blended estimates from available research.

Is this body count calculator anonymous?

Yes, completely. We do not collect your name, IP address, or any identifying information. The only data stored (anonymously) is your partner count, percentile, gender group, age group, and the current date — solely to power the community statistics display. No personal data ever leaves your device tied to your identity.

Key Body Count Facts

📊
The mean lies, the median tells the truth
A small number of people with very high body counts pull the mean (average) way up. The median — the middle value — is a far more accurate picture of what's typical.
📉
Gen Z is having less sex
Despite the perception of a hookup culture, Gen Z reports fewer lifetime partners than Millennials or Gen X at the same age. Dating apps have paradoxically made casual sex less common for many.
🤥
People lie about their number
Studies show 25% of Americans conceal their body count, and 16% actively understate it. Men tend to overreport, women tend to underreport — which means the real distributions are closer together than survey data suggests.
🌍
Country averages vary widely
Turkey, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand report the highest average body counts globally (13–14+). India and China report the lowest (2–3). The US sits at around 10–11 lifetime partners on average.
⚖️
The double standard is real
42% of men say a high body count is a dealbreaker in a partner, versus 27% of women. Men with high counts are viewed more favorably than women with equivalent counts — a persistent social double standard documented across multiple studies.
💍
Most people prefer a low number in a partner
Polls show Gen Z adults prefer partners with 1–2 previous partners. Millennials aged 30–45 are more flexible, saying 3–5 past partners is fine. Preferences vary significantly by age, gender, and values.
